Not long ago, the world at large could be considered fairly advanced. Technological advances made life more and more comfortable, and the most pressing concern anyone had was how they would pay their bills. A few years ago however, a strange energy began to enter the world; an energy that could only be described as magic. Before anyone had a chance to figure out a way to use this energy however, monsters began to enter the world as well. While the military forces of the modern world were far from incompetent, it was clear this was a kind of war they could not win. Monsters appeared almost anywhere without needing to gather or mobilize, and the army did not have nearly the speed to keep up. The only practical solution was to wall up as many cities as possible and defend them from the inside. Travel between cities quickly became nearly impossible, and the destruction of power lines left many cities without power. The survivors slowly began to discover something amazing however; some of them had a gift, the ability to use the magical energy on their own. Over the last several years, some general knowledge about magic began to spread, including how to harvest it from monsters. Now, those who can use magic are encouraged to begin exploring the outer world, in hopes that they may find the source of the monsters; and end it. |
