Obviously the following image is just a rough sketch of how the combat screen will appear. This is to demonstrate the general layout of the screen. 1: Enemy zone 2: Character portraits 3: Row position 4: HP meter 5: MP meter Party layoutYour party consists of up to 6 party members, with a max of 4 on a single row. Battle StartEnemies roam the dungeons as you explore mostly randomly. Depending one your strength compared to theirs they may not notice you right away or at all. If they are near your strength or stronger than you, they will immediately notice and pursue. If an enemy enters the same tile that you are standing on, a battle will begin with that monster. During battle, monsters continue to roam; if less than 4 monsters are presently in battle with you, they may enter your space while you fight to join the battle. Turn orderCombat turn order will work in faux-realtime, each character and enemy will act as they are 'ready' to act, though you may choose to allow a character to wait until after another character has made a move to maximize strategic timing. A 'round' is a cycle during which each character has had a chance to act at least once. Leveling upThere are two ways of leveling up in the game. The first, and more familiar is from combat with monsters. When the monsters are defeated, magical residue is left behind and stored in a key item, however, traces of this essence sticks to the characters as well, causing them to gain levels and become more powerful. Upon returning to town, this magical contamination is cleaned from the party to prevent any unforseen side effects of extended exposure. The party is therefor always lvl 1 when first entering a dungeon. The second way of leveling up is becoming more skilled. When a character uses their skills, they become better at using their innate abilities, and grow skill levels. Skill level determines what skills are available, and their effectiveness. Since this power comes from knowledge it is not lost when you return to town. EXP will be attained based on the enemies level compared to your party's, on a set 1000 EXP per level scale. A character's stats are fixed, and determine a given character's aptitude towards any given stat. the exact stat at any given level is the base stat multiplied by the character's level. In the case of HP it is constitution multiplied by the character's level, then multiplied by ten. In the case of MP, it is their Skill source's stat multiplied by their level, then by five. BossesSome of the monsters in the world now are so powerful that they warp the fabric of reality it's self. Whenever you are in proximity to one of these beasts many strange things begin to happen, including your health or MP meters reading incorrectly, spells misfiring, or items having the wrong effect. |
